Watford Philharmonic Society
HAYDN IN HERTS
Franz
Joseph Haydn was one of the most prolific composers of the eighteenth
century. He made to visits to London, in 1791-2 and 1794-5,
and in 1791 he went to stay at Roxford near Hertingfordbury
to escape the heat and noise of London.
Jeanne
Mann, Leader of the Watford Philharmonic Orchestra, (left) had
the idea of bringing together a group of musicians to play all
102 of Haydn's symphonies.
Terry Edwards, the Society's
conductor, (right) was very enthusiastic.
On the second Sunday of
every month (except January 2011 when it is on the 16th) musicians
of grade 6 standard and above are invited to meet at Christ
Church to form an orchestral workshop. Four symphonies are performed
each time. Everyone enjoys themselves and members of the public
are welcome to come and listen.
The project will take
about two years and the final meeting should be in November
2012.
